Volunteer – Bud Smith
The main thing about Bud is he is consistently there to help. Whether picking up trash at Duncan Park, finish line set up at the Civitan, or taking pictures, he is there to help the club. Late in the year he even recertified the Grasshopper course. Thanks Bud!
Come Back Kids (with Kids) – Renee and Karl Johnson
Renee and Karl have found ways to deal with raising triplets and still work their way back into running. Karl is getting back to some fine times just as he moves up into the Masters race category. His 5K best for the year was an 18:31 at the Peach Festival. Though not racing as much, Renee worked in a couple of good races at the Grasshopper and Main Squeeze 5Ks.
Optimist – Bubba Brunson
He is the loudest and most enthusiastic supporter and motivator at any event regardless of whether you are a friend or total stranger.
24/7 Couple – Sammy and Darlene Goode
Define the term ‘training partner’. They create an instant group run because they run everywhere together.
The Professor of Running – Nancy Anderson
Leads women’s training groups, offers helpful advice, and even tells them where to turn on training runs.
‘Chip’ Magnet – Chip Johnson
For his magnetic personality.
Outer Limits – Jeff Ethington
Has certain rules for races and rarely ventures to races that do not meet those rules. (Less than $20 entry fee, less than hour drive, no shirt option, 5 year age group awards, 5K – though he will do an occasional 8K)
Lois Lane – Amanda Henderson
Intrepid reporter of all the SRC member news and gossip.
Shoe – Cheryl Miller
Always complaining about something with her shoes.
Never Practice, Still Wins – Vivian Shufelt
Seems to always be saying ‘I have not run in 4 months’ as she picks up her age group awards.
Starbucks Girls – Patti Moran and Anna Blestel
Can be found starting or ending a run with a stop at Starbucks. They are conducting their own personal study on the effects of caffeine on running.
